Synopsis
Blood Ties is set in the Eleven Domains, a place where ghosts walk and the past is closer than you think, where the local gods speak to all those who can hear them.
A thousand years ago, the Domains were invaded and the remnants of the original inhabitants forced on the road as Travellers, belonging nowhere, welcomed by no-one. The invasion happened so long ago that it has passed into legend - the legend of Acton, who lead the invasion force and was the first Warlord. Now the country is ruled by Warlords whose power is restrained only by their need for trade with the Free Towns.
But one person has not forgotten that the land once belonged to the Travellers, and he intends to take it back by enchantment - and blood...
The Domains are governed with iron control by the Warlords, but there are wilder elements to the landscape which cannot be controlled and which may prove their undoing. Some are spirits of place, of water and air and fire and earth. Some are greater than these. And at least one is a human girl, Bramble, whom no-one living can tame...
In the Domains you may learn your fate from stonecasters who can see the future in their stones, but one young man, Ash, must learn that the future is not certain, and love breaks all fates...`
Bramble, Ash and the enchanter Saker become bound together in a complex lacework of history, memory, grief and death. And not even the Well of Secrets, who hears the gods whisper the future in her ears every night, can foretell the outcome...
